The SIG 1911's do look very nice. How about the Smith and Wesson 1911? You don't hear very much about them.

I hear good things about Sig Sauer.

Colt, IMO, has become the "overpriced name brand "

1911. Sure, it's the original, but do you really want to

buy the label on the side of the gun at 300-400$

extra?

When you consider that Kimber's run the same price and more (some models are much, much more) and all the complaints that this non Kimber owner has heard about them...

I don't want to talk too much smack about a gun I've never owned or fired, but it's many of the actual Kimber owners themselves who have turned me away from that brand in my (hopefully) upcoming buying experience.

I know you didn't mention Kimber in that post, I'm just pointing out that I don't think I would call Colt the overpriced name brand.

In my recent window shopping (almost 4 hours in a single store) the Colts I looked at were very reasonably priced, and in many cases cheaper (in some cases much cheaper) than comparable offerings from Kimber, SA, Sig, and Smith.

Well trip, the difference here is I'd buy a Colt, but never a Kimber.

I'm sorry, my sad experience here in my part of the Sunshine State is

everybody punishes you for looking at a name brand like Colt by

tacking a few hundred extra dollars on the price tag.

You must be lucky, they don't do that where you live...

I think maybe I am just lucky, as a Colt 1911 is what I most want on my hip next. But with many other makes and models, the prices seem to be higher. A S&W 686 in may area regularly runs 800 1000 dollars, with of course a few exceptions regarding more reasonably priced ones (usually private sales, someone in a bind).

It just seems like certain makes and models bring better prices than others depending on location. This isn't really necessarily a cheap gun region.

Apparently you had a good experience with Kimber CS, and are lucky

enough to have at least 1 Kimber which hasn't had repeated repair

issues.

What I took away from "The Kimber of my Discontent" is Kimber

CS is a far cry from the best, compared even to Kel-Tec and

Hi-Point.
