DefaultSo I did it..My 1st 1911

After much deliberation. I went to the shop and picked up my new PT1911. I know it's not the "best" but as many people advised, I wanted to become comfortable with the platform before investing a mortgage payment in a new gun. So far I love the thing, It came with Hogue wraparounds and 4 mags total for 425. Definatly a doable price. The first thing I had to do was give it a good cleaning it was filthy but it cleaned up nicely. As far as I can tell it is a well built gun. The fit it very good and it points very naturally. I can see now what all the 1911 fuss is about. This thing just "feels sweet". Now for some night sights and I think I'm all set. Anyone have any spare sights laying aroung they wanted to donate .

Thanx

My suggestion would be to shoot it a bunch before making any changes. The more familiar you become with the platform, the more you'll be able to decide what, if any changes you will want to make.

The 1911 is still popular and has legions of fans for good reason. Congratulations on your first 1911.

Well some Tauruses are great and others give problems, so you need to try her out before making mods. I have two (9mm and 38 Spec) that function just fine so I like Taurus. Others have had bad experiences. I'd safety inspect it then put rounds down the chamber!

Might be smart to load only one round in each mag for your first test in case it doubles. Not likely of course but I learned this lesson the hard way with a Colt 45ACP with a trigger job done by someone who called himself a gunsmith.

Truer words were never spoken. I've never seen any gun make that has as patchy a reliability reputation as Taurus. It's almost like you're playing craps when you buy one of those.

Some batches come out of the oven just fine, and others come out destined to cause headaches for their owners. Unlike bread, though, there rarely is any way to tell upon inspection which type of Taurus you have in hand when you go to buy one.

I've not seen many of the Taurus complaints that dealt with the 1911's. I've bought two so far and would do it again. They (the PT1911's) are very nice pistols. I had seen one that the safety started to wiggle out but it was put back in and never come aout again. Not sure what was up there. Outside of that they just seem to group pretty well. Most the ones I've seen will group as well consistently as some other higher priced 1911's.

I think you got a great deal there!! For $425!!

My buddy has two Taurus 1911's and he is very happy with them. I've shot his .45 a few times and it is impressive for the $$$.

Now, you're hooked!
