Smith & Wesson 1911

This is for the S&W 1911 owners are they Series 70 or Series 80?

Series 70 and 80 refer to Colt 1911's.

The series also refers to the type of safety that the 1911 has. A series 70 doesnt have a firing pin block, a series 80 does

If your 1911 has that little round plunger thing, its a series 80

That's my question does the S&W have the plunger thingy (Series 80 like) or like the Series 70 without the plunger thingy:confused:

Lock your slide back and look at the underside of the slide, if you dont see the plunger its a series 70..thats the easiest way that you can check :-)

SW was supposed to come out with a standard "Series 70" type safety with a titanium firing pin and stronger firing pin spring to help protect against accidental discharges if dropped, but they have yet to market it.

*Note: this was written before the release of the E series 1911s.

As I understand it, the E series are "70 series-like" w/ a titanium firing pin.
