Why not both???  Theres more of your 1911 than there are of my Medusa, that doesnt stop me from shooting mine all the time! It doesnt stop others from trying to buy it either....

If the 1911 had al little better sights than the military replica ones, probably would just go ahead and enjoy shooting and carry it on some hunts as a sidearm. But it has possible some up potential in value, marginal sights probably will just let the next owner decide what to do with it someday. Had been thinking of a 1911 for a little while and a fluke meeting with an FFL at a hardware store, ended up with owning this one. I guess, I'll have to keep my eyes open for more of practical shooter.

If the gun has been shot by the previous owner, for heaven's sake, shoot it.
The problem you are facing is exactly why I don't collect special edition, or other "fine" firearms. If I can't shoot it, I don't want it. I am thinking about getting rid of a nice SVT-40 because I am afraid I am going to damage it shooting it.....
