Default Serial Numbers on 1911s

I just bought a Springfield Armory Loaded Model 1911. It's a tight fit from top to bottom. The first 2 letters in my serial number is NM. Does this mean this gun has national match parts or is fit to national match dimensions?

Congrats as you got the SA that SA snobs buy. The gun is assembled in the US and is usually fit better, tighter, and in general a better gun than those with just an N. The N guns are put together in Brazil. I have one N gun and it is great but have to admit that the NM guns are better.

Hi, Limbkiller!

Thanks for that info. I didn't know that about the serial numbers. Truth be told, I never gave it much mind. My SAMCO is a NM. It's nice to know its American made.

NM is for National Match. Supposedly, the frame is to National Match standards.
Alas, some have taken the NM too far.

(SAMCO is in the PI, a territory of the US)

My mistake. It is the Shooters Arms Manufacturing (SAM) in the PI.

They've been around. They use to produce the Charles Daly 1911s.
Earlier guns were not to spec and everything had to be fitted.

Charles Daly 1911s were produced by Armscor, the company that produces Rock Island 1911s. They will still honor the lifetime warranty of the Armscor-produced guns.
