Real and a piece of trash. I've handled one at a flea market when I was a kid. Even then I could feel that my NERF gun was of better quality. They are rare, probably due to their durability. I would buy one these days as an interesting conversation piece, but I would never shoot it.

If real is either a flare gun, or it is a Class III NFA firearm. If smoothbore, an SBS. If rifled, a Destructive Device.
