Default S&w 1911

I would like to get a S&W 1911. Has anyone have any good reviews on the S&W?

My sister's boyfriend has one. I've shot it a few times, it's a great gun I'd recommend it for a a mid-level 1911.

I have a S&W 1911PD...great gun in my opinion. Never had any feed or eject issues. Have run a variety of FMJ ammos through a few different mags without fail.

Do you mean are there any people with good personal experience? Or do you mean are there any positive written reviews out there?

Here's a good one. It made me seriously consider the bobtailed commander.

And this one. I trust his opinions.

Nutnfancy has done a couple of reviews:

Sadly, S&W no longer offer 5" scandiums anymore. Very sad. I'd love a scandium government.

The 1911PD is scandium...is that no longer offered? And yes, the bobtail E-Series is one sweet looking pistol...

I totally agree that the SW1911PD is scandium, but it is only offered in 4.25", not the 5" any more. At least that is what the Smith website shows. They used to offer a 5" scandium frame that was railed (see nuntnfancy review). They must have had problems, though. Otherwise, I can't image why they would get rid of it. There's no chance that it had no following. There are so few lightweight governments offered out there, that there had to be a market.

I also really love their bobtail E-series commander! There are almost no factory-made bobtail frames out there. Kimber makes 'em, at $1400. Dan Wesson makes 'em, at $1600. Ed Brown makes 'em, at $2300+. But the Smith and Wesson E-series is about $1200 on the street. That's hard to beat.

Personally, I plan to go with a Springfield Champion and have it bobbed. But I am a sucker for Springfield's customer service. They cover their pistols for life and cover EVERY owner forever. No other company has that level of service. Smith's is almost as good as it covers the original owner forever. That's pretty good, too, but doesn't beat Springfield.
