S.A.M. - Understated custom 1911

Some people just don't like 1911s, and other people really look down their noses at 1911s made in the Philippines. I love 1911s, and I've had real good luck with Philippine 1911s, particularly gun made by S.A.M. (Shooters Arms Manufacturers).

When I wanted to put together a 1911 for cast bullet plinking, I started with a plain-Jane SAM 1911. I bought a bunch of parts from Brownells and I had a local 1911 smith named Victor Wolff, put together a pistol the way I wanted it. I've been shooting ths gun for several years and it is a joy to shoot. And, since I cast my own bullets out of free wheel weights, shooting a .45 ACP cost about the same as shooting a .22 LR, so I get to shoot it a lot.

Here's a link to a video on it. I'll post some pictures later.

Very nice, man.

The S A M pistols I have seen on display looked and felt good. If I was in the market for another 1911 in that class, I would give a S A M a try.

Your title says its an understated "custom" 1911. What exactly is custom about them? I'm unfamiliar with the brand.

The barrel/bushing, hammer/sear and the Ed Brown BoMar sights were all custom installed by a 1911 smith.

Nevermind. I didn't read close enough. I see now that you did the customizing. Nice work.

The earlier SAMs required a lot of fitting to customize.

The American Tactical is made by them, and with the right amount of TLC and change out the original springs, they can be decent pistols for the price.

Nice looking piece.

very impressive! i like it a lot!

i have some experiance with the 1911's made in the Phillipine Islands and personally, i find them to be very well made and pretty decently accurate. my current Commander sized 1911 is an American Classic by MetroArms. here is a link to the thread where i customized mine.

Nice gun. I'm glad you enjoy it.

Just curious, what'd you have to do to it to accommodate cast lead shooting?
