I decided a few months ago that I wanted to venture into the world of 1911. I allowed myself $1500 to start my addiction. I handled and tested just about every one you can think of. I got plenty of advise that you get what you pay for. What did I end up with.....Ruger, for $750. In my opinion, there wasn't another 1911 in the $1500 and under price range that even came close to the SR1911

the Remington R1 Enhanced is pretty dang good. i gave about $850 for mine and would definately do it over again. very accurate, very good fit and finish, and runs very reliablely with any ammo i have fed it so far.

I don't know what 1911 u tested but you def miss a lot if u think the ruger the best for under 1000 I own all 1911 and Springfield range officer 1911 blows away the ruger all day it is the best 1911 for under 1000 unless u can wait for a les bear custom or Wilson combat

I'm not going to get in a pissing contest with anyone, I thought the OP was wanting opinions. And I gave mine.

definately don't want to get into a pissing contest over the 1911! but $1000 or less, you can purchase a Springfield Mil-Spec, or even the very nice RO. even some of the Colts can be had for under $1000.

by your own admission, this is your first 1911 and just a few months into owning a 1911. well over the past 25 years, i have probably owned over 30-35 different 1911's. with the vast majority of them being Springfields, and i can attest to their quality, accuracy and reliability. but to say the Ruger is the best 1911 for under $1000 shows your lack of knowledge and i even own several Rugers, just not the SR1911 yet.

I searched the forums. Seems like some left to right play and up and down movement. Like you said though, easily fixable.

well i took mine and looked at it. it does have just a little more side to side and up and down play, than my other ones, but it shoots fine and the trigger feel good when shooting it. i haven't torn this one down completely yet, but it might be possible the play comes from where the trigger shoe is attached to the trigger stirrup. if so i think it will be an easy fix. thank you for bringing this to my attention.

You can't go wrong with either one of them, I have the R1 Enhanced it is a mighty fine 1911 very accurate, I say get both of them I'm going to as soon as the Ruger is a little more available round here. Good luck with which ever one you decide on
