I picked up a Ruger 1911 the other day. When I took it home to inspect/fondle, I heard a strange rattle. I replaced the magazine but the rattle persisted. Long and short, the trigger had a lot of vertical and horizontal play. I reached for my S/A 1911 Champion and my SW1911. Neither are custom by any stretch. I called Ruger and their answer was this, "There will be play in the trigger compared to your other 1911s because those are custom and the Ruger is more of an assembly line firearm.". First, I think that the "play" being normal is an automatic answer given to everyone. Second, my Smith 1911 and S/A Champion are so far from "custom", I really have to wonder why they even bother giving an answer. Love Ruger and otherwise the gun's fit and finish are great, but I am annoyed with that answer. I've owned a few 1911s, some of which were less expensive and there wasn't that kind of play in the trigger. Thoughts?
