Ruger SR1911 Commander trigger

I picked up a Ruger 1911 the other day. When I took it home to inspect/fondle, I heard a strange rattle. I replaced the magazine but the rattle persisted. Long and short, the trigger had a lot of vertical and horizontal play. I reached for my S/A 1911 Champion and my SW1911. Neither are custom by any stretch. I called Ruger and their answer was this, "There will be play in the trigger compared to your other 1911s because those are custom and the Ruger is more of an assembly line firearm.". First, I think that the "play" being normal is an automatic answer given to everyone. Second, my Smith 1911 and S/A Champion are so far from "custom", I really have to wonder why they even bother giving an answer. Love Ruger and otherwise the gun's fit and finish are great, but I am annoyed with that answer. I've owned a few 1911s, some of which were less expensive and there wasn't that kind of play in the trigger. Thoughts?

If it works, no problem.
If it does not work, problem for Ruger.

You can always replace the trigger.

take it to a competent gunsmith that is familiar with 1911's and have it checked out to make sure that this play is normal.but most 1911's by design of the way the trigger is made hace some play in them. all of mine do. but have it checked out and if it's not normal. send it back to Ruger for repairs.

Mine is the same make & model & I don't hear the rattling but if it works, it works. I can see how it'd be irritating, though. If you feel comfortable doing the work yourself this vid helped me install a WC trigger on my GI: http://youtu.be/4P4XJTKzKEU

I just got the same handgun last week, the trigger does rattle, but still works good!
