This is my first experience with a 1911...Anyone seen or heard of anything like this? Thanks for the help...

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but I'm seeing a failure to go into battery, not necessarily a mag issue.
My thoughts?
1. Clean & lube it properly. 1911s hate running dry, new ones in particular. If it slides, grease it, if it rotates oil it.
2. Try some different brands of ammo. I had a similar issue with some cast reloads. It doesn't take a lot of resistance to cause issues.
4. If the above doesn't help, then consider magazines.
