I have to admit that I haven't shot one, but I did watch the Shooting Gallery episode a couple of weeks ago where Michael Bane went to the Philippines and visited the RI plant. He showed them being made and shot the .22TCM using a watermelon as a target. Three watermelons virtually exploded. That looks like a great round and the pistol seemed to be very well built.

A few years ago I would have agreed with him.
But they have improved their manufacturing processes.

Find another smith. Some of us old guys keep our prejudices and fail to accept realities.

I've yet to see a RIA 1911 (with good mags) that didn't work exactly as it was supposed to. For some people especially when it comes to 1911's they will thin it's crap unless it's their flavor of 1911.

The biggest issue with any RIA I've seen was due to mags. And that happens with about any brand out of the box. If the mags are not good then they wont act right.

A RIA is no t a Nighthawk, but you don't pay for a Nighthawk wen you buy a Rock Island. But you do get a 1911 that will do what it's supposed to.

I had one (I think it was the RIA tactical.) and gave it to my brother for no other reason than I wanted a Colt. It was a reliable and functional weapon that gave me no issues. My older brother thinks it's made of gold as he's a huge 1911 fan but too cheap to buy his own. Of note, I replaced the grips with slim line ones as the factory grips were a bit thick and ungainly.
