Ria 1911
Hello all, just looking for thoughts on a RIA 4inch vs the full size model. These two firearms are in my price range but I don't know to much about RIA. Thanks for any input.

RIA guns are made in the Phillipines. For the most part they make a decent budget pistol. I don't know of any particular problem with either of the models you are considering. There are several members here that own them and they can give you a personal experience.
I owned a Citadel Compact made by the same company that makes RIA guns. I did not have a good experience with mine. It would not feed any brand of HP ammo I tried. The front sight would always come loose when shooting at the range. And the barrel hood rusted up on me. |
I've only had one feed issue. Over 1000 rounds flawless before. They took care of the issue for free. Did a reliability tune up and throated the barrel for me for free as well. Paid shipping both ways insured. It's a good CCDW pistol.

The Rock Island Armory offerings are the entry level 1911's that I recommend without hesitation. If you know going in that the gun is entry level and made offshore, you will not be disappointed. In my years of listening to all the whining complaints about poor customer service of the 1911 firearms manufacturers......Kimber is on top of the list and I don't think I've heard one complaint about RIA. Buy one with total impunity. |

Thanks for the advice. I will take this information and use it to my advantage when shopping.

My biggest problem with them is that they all have a parkerized finish and I really don't like that. For about the same price point, you can get a Metro Arms American Classic and they use an actual bluing as their finish.
Or for around $600ish, you can get a stainless Taurus and stainless will be much tougher and durable in terms of cosmetic condition. |
@olympus
I found a stainless finish RIA 1911 $500 good buy? |
