Well, it was almost a 2 hour drive, but well worth it! And only $740 total, out the door. I've heard that they've been going for $750-850 (pre-tax) due to the availability and demand. Great gun, it cleaned up real nice. I can't wait to get it out to the range!
Dang, your ego should have gotten a little bigger after you took that beauty home. That is a rare bird right now my friend.

I would like to see a Ruger SR1911. The Ruger Dealer in Ogden Utah told me yesterday no Rugers. He had a letter from Ruger stateing that they Ruger would not accept any orders for new guns this year. The Ruger Family is longer involved in the operation. It is now a public held company. The world changes.

Both are good, solid, basic 1911s. The Remington R1 is easy to find around here. The Ruger SR1911 is just about impossible.

I waited for the Ruger as I liked the finish better, and picked one up at a gun show for $700 (matte stainless, wood grips). Very satisified. 500 rounds through it, zero issues, came with two mags, and the Ruger mags run great.

Shouldn't this fact alone clarify a lot of these questions about which gun is better?

Ruger is working around the clock and cannot meet demand. S&W is in about the same shape as are several gun companies. With the election looming and Odumbo standing a chance of re-election guns are flying off the shelves. I will try to find the article on that and post it. Hell ammo companies are selling as fast as they make it.
