I have the R1 carry and it has about 4.5 or less trigger pull. Eats everything I feed it.

I have 2, an early model and a newer one with a threaded barrel. My only complaint is that they are picky about ammunition and magazines. I just can't trust them as an edc but my requirements may differ than yours. In the same price range there is the sr1911 from ruger and the desert eagle 1911. I have both and to be honest the r1e just didn't seem to be as accurate from my ransom rest as either of the other two. But they are good looking.

Sorry for the back to back posts, but I am not trying to talk you out of the r1e. I just wanted to point out that there are quite a few more choices in that price range. My local shop has colt 1991s new for 950. And I have found used kimbers for under 700. The Springer mil-spec is a solid firearm as well. It all depends on what you want and what you want it to do. I have a dozen or so 1911s ranging from rock islands that I gave 350 for to Wilson combats and c&s that are worth more than some cars. My edc is the desert eagle, if you can elaborate on the features you desire and your budget maybe I can help you out. As a range toy the r1e is excellent but mine are both jam-o-matics and I can't trust ny life to it. Just my .02 and sorry if y'all feel I jacked the thread. I just don't want a new 1911 owner to get frustrated with the platform.

i use higher quality mags in mine than the OEM. i buy either the Wilson Combat or the Chip McCormack magazines for my 1911's. so far, my R1 Enhanced has fed everything i put through it, including my reloads with not one problem to date. i shoot either 230 FMJ or my 200 or 230 gr XTP reloads.

so far, with my reloads, i can easily get 2-3" groups at 10-15 yards shooting off hand. i have never shot mine off a rest yet.

I am glad to hear that yours are not bad. I don't know how much you shoot but in the roughly 5k rounds on mine there is about a 8.5% failure rate which dq's them from carry for me.

don't know the exact number, but an estimate would be about 3000-3500, through mine, maybe more, with not one failure to date. i trust my R1 without a question. i reload and have my own pistol and rifle range behind the house, so i probably shoot more than most.

you are one of the first ones i have heard about having jams in one. junk the factory mags and use a some higher quality mags like the Wilson Combats, Tripps or Chip McCormacks and i'll bet most of your problems will disappear.

I only use Tripp, Wilson or Chip's. I reload and have my own ranges as well. I just finished rebuilding my tb r1e I will see if that helps. The problem I encountered the most was stove pipes and double feeds in the non tb, and failure to fire on the tb. I went with a titanium firing pin and wilson springs. After my upcoming matches I hope to run about 2k through it with the can and see if it's still having issues. But I will agree with you on the magazine issue, the OP would invest in high quality magazines no matter what 1911 he/she ends up with.

as with my sig the 1911 will be a carry gun as well as a range gun. I like novak 3 dot sights or night sights which rules out a milspec for me. and up to 1,000$ including tax. I dont mind a 7rd capacity but hey 8rds aint a bad thing. accuracy is a must i want that thing to be a laser if im aiming and shooting properly all those bullets should fly into the same hole or damn close to it. Before you ask yes i have done that with a 1911 before at 15 ft i got 8rnds in a 0.5 inch hole. and wouldnt you know it i deleted the picture. which is why high standard came to mind but nobody seems to carry them. anyway thats the basic "need" for the 1911.

I wouldn't rule out a mil-spec sights can easily be changed. As far as accurate I would say an older Kimber, without the II designation. I stand by my desert eagle 1911g, its as accurate as my kimbers. 2 inch groups at 25 meters off the rest and I think I paid 799 plus tax. There are tons of 1911s for under a grand as a general rule I stay as close to the original as possible. More features for less money isn't always a good thing in the 1911 world. Its just a personal preference for me but if you can get past the god awful roll mark the desert eagle is fantastic and Kimber cut sights will fit with minimal fitting required.

i took a quick look at the 1911 your recommending until i actually hold one in store i wont know if i want it or not. but it looks like a decent carry gun and it has a full length guide rod with a novac sight system. so it has alot of the stuff id like and if it fits my hand for the 850$ price tag ill buy it
