I have a Magnum Research 1911. Can anyone recommend a reliable brand of magazine for everyday carry?

Can you give us a range report on your gun? :) don't think I've read one for the MR yet.

Our resident 1911 advisor recommends tripp magazines quite a bit.

I love my 1911. I had shot a bunch of handguns at my shooting range before I decided what to buy (this was my first handgun). I had shot all the usuals: glocks, berettas, hks, sigs, paras, m&ps, xds, you name it, but I had only shot 2 1911's: the Magnum Research and an older-looking Colt.

It should be said that the most important factor deciding whether I feel comfortable with a gun is the trigger action. I did not like the Colt 1911 I shot. I felt like I had to squeeze too hard to pull the trigger. So unfortunately, that's the only 1911 I have to compare it too.

My 1911's trigger is just how I like it. The gun is single-action only, so you can squueze a little bit without any resistance, then it becomes a true hair trigger. In my opinion, the gun handles the recoil of the .45 fairly well. My brother own's a glock .40, and my Dad owns a Beretta .40, both of which I have shot multiple times. I feel like the recoil on my .45 is less than both of those guns. It should be said that I consider a Glock 9 to have a substantial recoil. I assume that is only because of my inexperience after I see videos of others emptying a whole magazine without the barrel moving up at all. Anyway, I still feel like recoil is pretty good on my 1911, especially for a .45.

The gun also seems very accurate, although all the inaccuracy I've ever experienced is probably because of user error. Nevertheless, I am fairly accurate with my gun, and my brother (the best shot in the family) can get some pretty impressive patterns at 10 yards.

It comes with black sights, which can be hard to see in dim light.

It comes with two 8-round magazines, which is nice. They also work well. I have never had a round jam in the factory mags.

I don't really know what else to say about it. Everything works the way that I understand most 1911's to work. Single-action-only, a safety you can engage without decocking, no live decocker, relatively complicated break-down for cleaning, beavertail grip safety.

I'm happy to answer any specific questions anyone has as well.

For aftermarket 1911 mags i like Shooting Star & Wilson

Nothing, they have worked very well for me. They have base pads, though, and I am looking for one without a base pad.

Brownells has shooting star 8rd mags w/o base plate for 24.99 item#207-145-208DH

Have you checked midway? I picked up my chip McCormick power mags (w/base plate) for $24.99. The shooting stars are good but the power mags are better by far.
