Reaching out to you 1911 folks
I am fairly new to the 1911. I currently have a springfield xd but would really like to add a 1911 to that. I would really like some suggestions on a few good entry level models somewhere around $700-800 or so and any other advice is welcomed also. Thank you in advance

In this price range, you can get a Remington 1911, if you want to save a few bucks you can get an RIA. A lot of manufacturers make 1911s but since I'm mostly (not to say only) interested in Colt 1911s, I'm not sure what their prices are.

what do you want the 1911 for range or carry it makes a differance in what is the best under your price range for range I woul recomend a sti spartan V for around 600 it has adj rear sight and a fiber front its made by armscor using sti internal parts. For carry I would look at the sti spartan III or IV III is a officers size (3.5 inch barrel shorter grip) and IV is a commander size (4 inch barrel full size grip) they have better carry sights on them than the spartan V same price around 600. lifetime warranty Randy

Ruger sr1911. It msrp for around 550-700 depending on where you shop.
The ruger will give the performance of a legit colt for half the price.

Taurus makes a very good "entry level" offering that has several features people look for in a 1911.
One of the things I would caution is to not shoot for the stars with your first 1911 because you will find things you like and things you might want differently after having one in your possession.
The 1911 is a fantastic platform, but once you get one, they tend to call their friends, who in turn drain your wallet and continue to elbow their room into your safe.

In your price range ($650) the only manufacturer of a 1911 rendition that offer a hammer forged steel slide, barrel, and frame, and life time warranty, is the Taurus with their PT1911, it also comes with just about every upgrade you can imagine.
shoot safe, shoot straight, and have fun
