My opinion:

Unless you want a nighthawk just to have one, im the last person who will judge anyone on gun expenditures, there are better options for a new shooter to try that wont drain your budget and will perform no worse than a nighthawk in the hands of a new shooter.

The worse thing you can do is plunk down a ton of money on a gun shoot it for a while then learn you really dont like 1911s as much as you thought.

This is especially true if your on a budget or you got the wife on your @ss...

If you got the money to burn thats your business the nighthawk is a very very fine 1911

Smart man Cane....I knew you would always go back to the Colt. No matter if it was a nighthawk, ed brown or wilson. I myself just have kimbers, sigs and of course Colts but I was wanting to see what you would say. Later bro, Ed

A Nighthawk is on my bucket list and I will own one someday! The decision made by Phillips, Cholson and Stone to leave Wilson Combat and concentrate on high-end 1911's is the best thing to happen to the 1911 pattern pistol, other than that inventing thingie John Browning did around the turn of the 20th century.

But if I were to save up (~$6,500 needed) and buy my ultimate 1911 it would be a Colt 70 series, all steel Combat Commander. I'd pack that Colt up and send it to Ted Yost in Tempe.

I would have Heirloom Precision do a Signature Grade Conversion on the Commander and have a finished gun similar to this:
Cane you just ruined my chances of getting a boat, that is a gorgeous pistol.

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!
