I have a SIG scorpion carry and it sure is a well built gun that is dead accurate especially for being a commander style. But as everyone else said, take everyones recommendations but the best is to get out and fondle them thoroughly!!

check them out. Sig makes a fine pistol. i have no personal experince with their 1911's, but, i highly doubt they are any less of quality than their other pistols.

I have a Ruger as well. Great gun, but there are so many great 1911's out there: Ruger, Springfield, Smith & Wesson, Remington, Colt, Sig. It's going to be a fun search with that budget.

Don't forget the used market.

You can get some deals, but you have to know what to look for.
But, most problems can be fixed. I've purchased a 10mm C-BOB used for less than $850 and had to replace springs.

There is a sticky about buying a 1911 that you should look at.

I have a Colt Gov't that is from the early 80's I bought used for under $700 that shoots as well as anything I have shot. I also have a new Colt Wiley Clapp
Commander that is flawless. So, I guess you know what I would suggest. If you're only going to buy 1 1911, buy a Colt. There are other nice 1911s out there though. Just fondle a bunch until one speaks to you.

IMO and experience, Cold, Springfield Armory, and Para-Ord are great 1911 choices. Kimber has been hit and miss for me. Springfield makes a tight spec pistol. I would suggest a MC Operator if want a heavy gun or a LW Operator for a lite weight. Bot the would serve well at the range and as a carry pistol. I have a MC Operator and think highly of it.

I haven't shot a Sig 1911 but I've heard a lot of good things about them. I own 4 Sig pistols and they shoot great. I plan on getting 2 more Sig pistols in the coming year.

May I state the obvious answer? Find a range in your area that has a wide selection for rent and shoot as many as you can to see which you like the best. It all comes down to what works for you.
