Para .40 s&w or .45 acp

Hi,

I've been thinking about buying a Para 1911 for along time and was wondering what would be the best caliber to get it chambered in. I have a 9mm and want to try something differant and was wondering what would be the better caliber, .40 s&w or .45 acp. It would almost feel sacrilegious to get a 1911 that's not chambered in .45 acp, but if there are some plus' to .40 s&w I might consider :p.

Personally, I've done extensive research on 1911's. I can't remember why, but I've read some things that made me decide never to buy a Para 1911.

:eek:

I've owned a couple of Para 1911s and they're OK. Their tiny 1911s, like the warthawg, gets a lot of bad press and it's probably deserved. The full size guns are just fine though. I have a double stack P16 in .40 and it's a great gun, I got it during the ammo crunch when .45 was hard to find.

A "real" 1911 is .45, and I have 4 of them, but regardless of caliber it's a great platform...

M1911 = 45ACP, it's just that easy.

The 1911 is definitely a .45 platform. The only other caliber I'd consider getting one in would be 10mm Auto.

1911 = 45 ACP, everything else is stamp collecting!

The Para-Ordnance double stack pistols are just OK, IMHO. You get what you pay for. If you want a high quality double stack single action handgun based on the 1911, get an STI, period!
I built a Para framed gun years ago that was reasonably accurate, reasonably reliable and reasonably priced. When I got serious, I bought an STI 2011. That was an incredibly accurate and reliable handgun with way more CDI points.
Single stack? .45 ACP
Double stack? .40 S&W

Don't believe you will find much love of the D.E. Some, but not much *ahem*

.45 acp, in whatever is the better round, imho.

Never owned a 1911 (will soon :cool:), but I would say +1 to what the cane said : 1911 = .45ACP
