A friend of mine has a milspec Rock Island. I have shot it numerous times. The gun is accurate and dependable.

No matter how much ammo he lets me burn he isn't going to convert me to a 45 acp lover. He needs to find someone else to split cases of ammo with or buy a 357 mag.

or your friend could get one in 9mm or 38 super

i've had my Rock Island 1911-A1, in 9mm for almost a year. very accurate & not a hiccup or glitch with it yet

An RIA will do exactly the same thing as a Kimber, or a Wilson or any other "quality" 1911s, except they will not impress your friends with how much money you have to spend on guns.

i agree. my buying habits on firearms is that they have to impress me, not anyone else. i have never bought a firearm to impress others.

no BBQ guns. just the beauty of simplicity. now don't get me wrong, i do like looking at beautiful and ornate firearms, and there was time when that was my liking, but just not anymore. more function over form now.

Default Ria 1911-A1 Rocks

I had known several people with RIA 1911's, and I was allowed to shoot one. Everyone spoke highly of theirs, and I liked how they felt.

I was at the last gunshow in Jacksonville, FL with my wife, we were there to look for a handgun for her to carry concealed. We weren't having much luck finding one she liked, then out of the blue she asked me, "what type of gun is it that you're always saying you'd like to get one day, if we ever get to a point where we can afford it"? Now the main reason we were looking at guns for her, is because she and my sister-in-law were going to drive over 400 miles out of state to visit their brother. Then she tells me, "if you let me take your LCP on my trip, I won't need to buy a gun yet. Then you can use the money to buy that 45 you like". The only rule I was given was a $500 price cap. Little did she know the gun I wanted was the 1911-A1, and I found one that was brand new for $399.

Well my wife decided to go to the range on Sunday, and she finally got to shoot the beast. Guess what? She loved it!!!!! The gun is smooth as can be, and the trigger pull is only 3 pounds and very crisp. And it's eaten every type of ammo flawlessly, even my reloads which I made from hot to mild, using RN, TC, and SWC.

well said Centaur. glad to hear your wife likes it as well. my wife likes shooting my AC Commander and my SA Micro Compact 45. she handles both very well!
