Ok, so time is close
and I am looking at every 1911 out there, but I have a question. If you had a chance to get a 1911 and the Smith and Wesson 500, which would you get? I can get one this year and one next year (so sayeth the "banker" in the house)? Like I said, I am starting my collection, and want to get what I can when I can. Kimber or Colt 1911 or a Smith and Wesson 500........you make the call!

NO CONTEST!
I'd get at least one 1911, as they tend to multiply once you get one, before I even considered holding that big .500 unless you are planning on hog hunting or something like that with it.
For pistol shooting the 1911 wins this poll with 85% plus of the vote. Easy.

i would go colt 1911. the 500 would be sweet in a quality semi auto carbine. but in a pistol... bleh. i got a 50ae and the only reason i havent got rid of it is my wife loves the thing.

The 1911 is a piece of history, a fine firearm and mandatory for any gun aficionado. You will shoot it more often and you will soon be smitten by the world's greatest pistol.
The 500 may be fun to shoot, but you won't want to shoot it a lot and ammunition is quite costly.
