NOVAC cut slide...questions!
I have a SIG 1911 GSR. The gun shoots really low and it has NOVAC carry sights. The front sight is the lowest they have .190" so that isn't the problem. I ordered the NOVAC adjustable rear sight and find that I have to send them the slide to machine a cut in FRONT of the dovetail so the sight will fit......SUCKS! My question is: Can I recut my slide for a BOMAR type rear sight and who will do it and install/sell the sight. I want the low mount cut. Why couldn't they just design a rear sight that fits in the original cut?

Pretty sure Champion and Kensight make adjustable rear sights that will fit the
Novak dovetail with no other modifications. My wife has a Champion on her 9mm Colt 1911--it has been trouble free for several years. |

might be a re-branded Champion? |
Hello Cliff, Does your gun have the actual NOVAK dovetail front sight? If so, Brownells lists Novak front sights down to .160". This would raise POI at 25 yds. approx. 4", depending on the exact sight radius of your gun. One of my Novak equipped 1911s required a .175" front to zero POA/POI at 25 yards.
Another option is the Heinie low mount rear. They make one that is .050" taller than the regular Novak or Heinie rear sights, and fits the regular Novak dovetail without further machining. This would raise POI about 6" at 25 yards. I have used the Heinie in one of my guns with the Novak rear dovetail without any problem at all... |
