The mag void in the 1911 sits well forward in the grip. A significant portion of the grip is taken up with the Main Spring Housing and it's ignition components.

Flint Rock you lucky bastard  that is one beautiful and highly functional .45 pistol. I like the Bobtail, I have been contemplating for some time of bobbing my pistols. They seem to conceal much better with that grip butt corner missing.

It gets your front sight back down quicker. If you're used to shooting a 1911 without it and fire one with it, you'd be surprised at how much more quickly follow up shots can be squeezed off.
I don't like the way bobtails fit my hand. I'd deal with printing before I dealt with a bobtail.
