Default New RIA for me

Went to the gunshow today and the wife told me to go ahead and spend my Christmas/B-day money if I found something that I wanted. I took a 20 gauge shotgun with me as trade bait and this is what I came home with:

I've been reading a lot of good things here about the RIA 1911's and decided to take a chance. I haven't ever shot a centerfire pistol but am enjoying the Colt/Walther 1911 in .22 I picked up last month. Bought a 50 round box of Federals and hope to get out this week to shoot it.

Congrats! And I see it fits the stand nicely (raspberries to the others who thought it held only .22's)

Great looking gun. I have to ask where you got the stand though. Did you make it or bought somewhere? Anther question, does the RIA seem to have a lot of ruff edges, or is it pretty smooth?

I made the stand. It is pretty smooth, very stiff out of the box and the slide release is tight. I filed it a little last night to take any burr off of it. There is no slop in the way everything fits together. I haven't taken a caliper to it but the mating surfaces don't have nicely.

I have a RIA commander. Several people poo-poed me for buying it. I felt it was a good gun for the price. It shoot well but bits my hand. After a couple of years of shooting I decided to do a alittle customizing. I added Wison Combat Hammer, Sheer, an Beaver tail Safety. I added Crimson Trace laser grips and boy what a gun it is now. I am thinking of buying another one the 38 Super and customize it. I feel it is a great starting platform and a good gun for a 1st 1911. I am up to 8 1911s now and wanting more.
Enjoy your gun.
