I wandered into a pawnshop on Friday and they happened to have a couple of Taurus 1911s on sale. One of them caught my eye and the deal was way too good to pass up. The one I grabbed looks as if it had a very easy life (its a 2007 model). No holster wear and it looks as if only a few hundred rounds were shot through it. Surprisingly tight tolerances, very nice slide to frame fit, couldn't be happier considering the deal I got.

Anyways, after driving all over Hampton, Newport News, and Williamsburg I managed to find just one box of .45 (so it looks like the range report is going to have to wait a bit). So that leads me to .22 conversion kits. Is the Ciener kit any good? I'm not too worried if I get a few fail to feeds or fail to extracts, but I don't want something that's going to put any excessive wear on my pistol. Any other suggestions of lower priced kits?

It only came with one magazine. Any thoughts on Chip McCormcik vs. Wilson Combat vs. others that you recommend?

I'm happy to be part of the 1911 club. I had given up on finding a 1911 in my price range and I was actually shopping for CZs, but I guess the gods were smiling on me this weekend .

You'll have to do some googling but I remember reading the Taurii 1911s have problems with .22 conversions. As far as mags go, Wilsons and Chip McCormicks work for me...

Congrats on the 1911 purchase. I think the Taurus is a very good pistol for the money.

I have not yet read anyone doing an aftermarket conversion for .22lr on the Taurus. Having said that, the tolerances are good on the Taurus, it's all CNC machined, so I would imagine any good quality 1911 conversion drop in kit will work fine.

Wilson 47D's have never failed to work well in numerous 1911's. There is nothing wrong with the Chip McCormick ones either, though I think they are a bit more expensive.

As with any gun, buy one or two of a certain type and see what the gun likes to run, just like with ammo. What might be perfect for my gun might not work worth a damn in yours, for whatever reason...

from what I've looked up online the some .22 kits aren't compatible. Others work after some work with a file and dremel. I'm still not sure what specifically is different on Taurus 1911s that create the problems with some of them. I'll keep looking around the interwebz and see what I come up with.
