I know. My Colt Defender has a bad habit of this. The problem, as it was explained to me, is that the extractor is too tight on the rim and it flips the brass into the slide. Then the slide's travel shoots it right into my forehead. People have told me to fix it to loosen the extractor, but I figured it has never jammed once.

I won't go tinkering with something that works. I just wear a baseball cap and keep shooting.

I am about to pull the trigger (bad pun) on purchasing a Kimber Stainless Steel Pro-TLE. I can't find one in stock at my usual gun stores, but I can order one from a small shop near my house. They advised that Kimber is pretty backed-up right now and that I can expect a 2 month+ wait for delivery.

The quoted price is just a bit over $1,000.

This will be my second 1911, my first is my Series 80 Stainless Steel Colt Gold Cup. The Kimber will primarily be a range shooter and an inside the home SD pistol, it MAY see some limited carry usage, but that is not the reason for the purchse.

Any comments?

I think you will be extremely happy. I really like the balance of the 4" barrel size. The stainless will probably endure better than their KimPro black, but I like my guns black.

Great choice! Definitely worth the wait. But definitely run it through its oaces of 400 to 500 FMJ rounds before 1) using HP and 2) putting it into save-your-life duty. For me, after about 200 rounds I didn't have any hiccups, including on HP ammo. (I use Winchester Ranger)

I am incredibly pleased with my Stainless TLE II, its my 9th 1911 but my first Kimber. I'll tell you I heard some bad things about Kimber and now I don't believe a single complaint. I ran 372 rounds through it the first range trip. I went through 4 fifty round boxes of 230gr. Magtech FMJ and 2 fifty round boxes of 230gr. Federal FMJ. Finally, I went through 72 rounds (8 mags loaded 8+1 each) of my carry load 230gr. Hordady TAP +P to test for relaibility after I went through all of the FMJs. It never sputtered or coughed.

As a matter of fact it colored my next purchase after I save for it: a 10mm Kimber Eclipse II.
