I just bought some really nice Alumagrips, slimline, for my Kimber TLE Pro II. I also replaced the bushings and screws for slimline bushings/screws. I just went to the range tonight and realized that, after about 50 rounds, my grips were getting loose. By the end (150 rounds), they were pretty darn loose.

A benefit of Alumagrips is that you don't need to remove them for cleaning, like you need to for rosewood grips.

What to do? A drip of Loctite?

I use the blue Loctite 242 on all of my grips, scope rings, etc.
Works for me.
I need to check into those alumagrips!

That was the only photo I've taken with the new grips (for a holster thread). I'll have to take a full photo. I really love slimline grips. My Colt New Agent had them and I've been waiting for the money to buy some for my bedside gun for awhile.

So...one vote for Loctite.

Go to Home Depot and pick up some #60 rubber washers (I believe made by Delco). A box of 10 is a little over a buck. Put one of these washers underneath the screw head and tighten them down. They keep things snug. They're also great for wood grips.

Go to your negihborhood hardware store with a grip screw.
Get a small "O" ring for each screw (and a few extra).
With practice, you should be able to snug the screws up enough and still be able to have the slots aligned.
I would rather ruin an "O" ring than the screw or escrutcheon.

If you put a bit of Loctite on the screw, can you still remove the screws with relative ease if you want to?

Just be sure to use BLUE Loctite, not red. I LOVE Alumagrips, and I've never had them come loose on either of the 1911s I have them on. Are you sure you have the right screw/bushing combination? Sometimes standard-length screws and/or bushings will work with slim grips and not bind up the magazine.

lon, when I bought the grips, I bought the bushings and screws from the same vendor. They're the right ones. I wish they were Torx, though. I'm afraid to strip out the allen wrench ones.

WOC, blue loctite makes a screw stay, but not permanently. I've never used the red stuff, but I'm betting that it is way more perm than the blue. The blue just keeps screws so they don't back out during recoil and use.

I will try the o-rings first, keep 'em on until the next range trip, then I'll give a report back on this thread. I still have me regular-length screws (which are torx) so I could try that, too, especially with the o-rings in there.

If your going to Blue Loctite the grip screws, you best make sure the bushings are tight and/or locktited to the frame.
It's no fun when the bushing lets go before the grip screw.
