NOTE: 1911 noobs, READ THIS!
If the chamber or mag is empty, NEVER allow the slide to slam to battery. Hand assist it to battery.
If the mag is loaded, NEVER hand assist the slide to battery. Release the slide and allow it to strip a round from the mag and load it to battery.
You should NEVER have a round in the chamber with the slide locked back. If you were to release the slide the extractor would need to spring out and around the round's rim and this is not a modality it was designed to do!

Yeah no kiddin. He's written a lot of stuff about the 1911 for all of us, but we really could use a noobs manual.

+1 to Ballistol. I buy it at the local locksmith.
Some fantastic advice here but one of the more important tidbits is missing.....start saving now for your next 1911....'cause you can't own just one!
