Need some advice.
I do not yet own a handgun, but I would like for my first one to be a 1911.
With my budget of 1500, what would you suggest?

I would check out Dan Wesson, Colt, or Springfield. Best bang for your buck in that price range, IMO.

Can't go wrong with a Colt! That's where it all started. But I'll defer to Cane, our resident Colt expert, who I'm sure will be along shortly.

Sweet!
My grandfather had a colt commander when he was in WW2, and everyone I've known thats had one or even heard of one has said they are great guns.

Problem is, that $1500 budget doesn't include ammo. .45 ain't cheap to shoot, so you might look into a Kimber model, with a .22 conversion kit. That way you can go to the range and shoot the crap out of it.

The ideal carry gun, IMHO is the Colt Light Weight Commander Model O4860XSE;
Colt XSE Lightweight Commander - $899.00
A gun you can carry all day!
.45 ACP 8 + 1 Round
