Default Need Recommendations For A Single Action 1911 That Wont Break The Bank

And no the bank is not going to tell you how much it has in it... do they ever? The less I have to spend the better is all I can say. I am really just wanting a comfortable single action 1911 for home defense mainly. I have a shotgun for HD, a 380 for my person and the 1911 will be in the opposite end of the home from the shotgun for easy access (by me). I want something with a bit more accurate range than the 380. If I could through a light/lazer on it that might be nice. Thanks!

Good news is that every 1911 is a single action. That's the beauty of the design.

Without a budget, the sky is the limit and too many options for me to even post. Rock Island is probably the lowest priced and it goes up from there.

I have nothing to add… Olympus has pretty much covered the subject with one sentence.

I'm going to just repeat what has been said. Without a price nobody can really answer that. That is like saying I want "A reasonable priced house". In Manhattan anything under $3M is considered reasonable. In some Detrout neighborhoods $50,000 is considered very expensive.

Rock Island is a great gun under $500. The Taurus 1911 is very good and around $600. Some of the Springfield 1911's can be in the high $600's to low $700's. If you ask someone who owns a Wilson or Ed Brown a $1,500 Kimber is inexpensive.

first of all i am going to suggest that you read Canebrake's sticky on choosing your first 1911. a lot of good information in that sticky. then you need to sit back and decide what amount of money you have budgeted. find out what the primary purpose of the 1911 is going to be also. after all that, you will have a much better idea of what you are looking for, and we can help you make an informed decision as to which one would suit your needs better.

I sold a RIA 1911 and a Remington R1 1911 in the last couple of days. The RIA at $425 and the Remington at $725 the RIA felt better and didn't rattle like the R1. I'll give the trigger pull to the R1 but other than that the cheaper gun beat out the more expensive one in my opinion. YMMV but check them all out in your range before you decide.

Just don't go on "American Guns" and ask for a Springfield Loaded.
