Need advice on how much a used 1911 is worth.

I am wanting to buy a 1911. Im really interested in Springfield. I am think about buying used but I want to make sure I get a fair deal. I found this one(see link), the guy selling lives close and I could drive and pick it up. Avoiding a transfer fee. What do you guys think?

I don't own any Springers and I don't keep up with their prices and values as much as I do other brands. But a generic way I gauge prices is by going to Bud's Gunshop Online and getting their price on a brand new one like what you're looking at. They have free shipping, so add about $25 to the price for the transfer fee and you'll get your total. Now decide is the price you'll pay for the used one good enough to buy or is it not much different than what you'll pay for a new one. Generally if I can get a gun in very good condition for at least $100 less than new, I will buy it. But if it's less, I try to just save a little more and get the new one. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much. I'll check out bud's and do a little comparing.

I have this exact same gun & I purchased it new for $799....
It is hard to tell everything from just the pictures but it looks fairly new (ie....barely used).
Before purchasing used - I would want to know exactly how many rounds have been through it (and inspect the barrel to check this out too).

If 100 rounds or less (or reasonably close to that) - then you are getting a pretty fair price. Not a smoking deal but a good price.
I would also want to know why he is selling it (any problems?). Springfield will cover any issues under warranty (regardless of owner) - but you may not want to go through the hassles when you could pick up a new gun for about $125 more.

Mine has been flawless.

So if lightly used (100 rounds or so) - then I'd say worth a look.
If more heavily used & well broken in (250-500 rounds or more) - I'd probably pass.

I wouldn't be afraid of that one on a ftf transaction.

I'd look carefully at the *polished feedramp* however.

Bring cash and maybe he'd take a little less, say $600 or $650.

Good luck!

+1here and the night sites are worth close to 100.00 see if he will let you rack a hollow point into the tube a couple of Times

Heck it would be even better if he would let you test fire it.

That sounds like a very fair price. I looked that gun up on Davidson's search and it was $796.00. The night sights are still new, this year's model, so they should be good for another 10 years at least. I would like to know who did the work on it and if they are good at it or not.

Thanks for the info guys! Im going to get a hold of the seller and see if he will let me test fire it. Hopefully all goes well and I can add this gun to my collection.
