Default Need 1911 compact suggestions.

Hello everyone,
I own several pistols but this is my first adventure into a 1911. I am looking for one the I could use for concealed carry. I have a budget of around $1000, give or take a few hundred. Can anyone offer a suggestion of a make and model to look for? Maybe one where the recoil is not terrible. Thank you for your help, Ed.

$1000? Well, first off, there is no need to spend that much money. Buy a Colt New Agent:

It is a 3" barrel, Defender size, with trench sights. A few guys on here who own this all agree that the sights are unconventional, but very usable. A couple of us even like the sight better than standard sights.

And the recoil is pretty easy.

$850

Then buy a good Crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe for $75 and spend the rest on ammo to break it in. Don't forget to buy a spare recoil spring system from Colt for $35 just to have one on hand. There's your $1000!

And it's a Colt.

You may want to look at the Colt Defender.

Patton Arms

The Colt Defender model offers the power and performance of a full sized

Ozark Guns The 3" barreled 1911 Colt New Agent is currently being produced in 45acp and 9mm!!!

Both Defender and New Agent come in .45 ACP or 9mm.

And the New Agent is now available in DAO.

Well, the Colt guys have chimed in so it's time for a Springer guy to enter the fray. My carry 1911 is a Loaded lightweight Springer Champion. It cost me $850 OTD with tax, tag, and title. Great shooter with no firing pin block (like a series 70 Colt)...

Well, I think that was the 1,2,3 punch, Cane and Jon. With Colt 3" 1911 you've got so many options: 45acp and 9mm, stainless steel and blued, single action and double action only, 3-dot sights or trench sights, slimline wood grips or Hogue rubber.

There are many other options out there, but Colt has us convinced.

I rather like my Paraordnance C-7. The DAO trigger IS different from the 1911 family, but I am a wheelgun shooter, so feels at home.

I have an STI Lawman represents the high end and Rock Island pistols at the bottom end. Frankly, I have just as much fun with the RIA's as I do with the STI. The STI has snob appeal and the RIA's don't but that matters little to me. The Colts are right in the middle. Spend the bucks on what makes you smile.

A word of caution. You mentioned recoil. The little pistols bark a lot worse than the full size. Although folks will swear that their small size 1911's function flawlessly, your CHANCES of a malfunction are greater with a small version than a full size. In fact, I refer to the "shorties" as fussy little brats."

So.....look at a lot of 1911's. When you see the one that rings your bell, pop for it and don't worry about what anyone else thinks.
