Needless to say, it was in bad shape and needed to be rescued.

So this time, I did the research to do the kind of bead blasting finish that I originally wanted. I wanted a shiny silver color that was buttery smooth instead of rough like it was before. Bought a small sandblaster and used 80 grit glass beads at 40PSI on the compressor. I bead blasted the whole gun and the results were better than I could have hoped for. This thing is like brand new again and exactly what I wanted the first time!
I've already posted about how nice this looks and the pistol looks so much better without Taurus engraved on the side. I kinda wanna do mine this way. It's my very first 1911 though so I'm hesitant to fiddle with it. Great job man.

The grips are box elder burl. It's a wood I use pretty regularly.

As far as the work, any machine shop or gunsmith can mill off the Taurus emblems on the side. It's an easy job and shouldn't cost more than $30 or $40 to do. Then you can get a handheld portable sandblaster at a hardware sore for about $15-$20. The 80 grit glass beads are from Harbor Freight and it was $40 for 50lbs, enough to do 3 or 4 guns.

I understand what you mean. I had this gun for several years before I finally got the nerve to experiment with it.

Have you had any trouble with yours? I haven't had a single problem with mine but I read a lot of negative stuff in this forum about em. I know a couple of folks who have one and they haven't had any issues yet either.

Never had a problem with this gun and I've for over 4000 rounds through it.

I did have a black one first and the ambi broke. But I called Taurus and they sent a call tag and it went back and got fixed for free. I traded the black one for this one.

Next will either be that Ruger, if I can find one, a Springfield or that Colt Railgun. I want a Para Black Ops but honestly don't wanna pay that price for it.

you're right there does seem to be a new current crop of haters and detractors flooding the forum here lately. might i suggest that they learn some manners and curb their remarks before their stay here is a short one!

nice save Cane! you have my respect for your remarks!
