while you are correct Qwiksdraw, i think he was refering to Rock Island Arsenal which is an armsmaker for the military. they don't sell to the public as far as i know. they make many different types of parts for artillery and did make some small arms at times. they have been in place since about 1816.

And the real Rock Island Arsenal has an important little museum in it as well as a little armor park museum up the street next to a Confederate cemetary...

Thanks! That was something I thought about later, so it looks like between us we got an answer for the OP.
Then there is the "other" Philippine company: S.A.M (Shooter Arms Manufacturing that makes the Titan 1911s that are distributed by ATI (American Tactical Imports).
But I wouldn't want to complicate the issue.

I was talking about Rock Island Armory- the 1911 maker.

In my opinion....having owned a Rock Island Armory commander size 1911....American Classic is MUCH better and more refined in terms of fit & finish. For the extra $150 it was money well spent

I know i was just clarifying, thanks, I tend to buy mostly American made things so I know not to buy any RRA's if I were presented with the option.

just how many 1911's do you own? and RRA would be Rock River Arms? their present 1911's have a polymer frame with a steel slide, pretty much just like a Glock. and they use to several years ago make a steel 1911 befor they decided to concentrate fully on AR's.
RIA and MetroArms both make their 1911's in the Phillipine Islands and both have very good reputations as making excellent pistols. many members here have both the RIA and the MetroArms American Classics along with the Armscor High Standard which is made by the same company as the RIA, and the Firestorm line with is mae by the same company as MetroArms, and the overwhelming consensus is that all of them are very well made and decently accurate 1911's.
BTW, i currently own a MetroArms AC Commander and have owned another one in the past and can attest to the fact that they are very well made pistols. i have also looked at the RIA 1911's and with all the favorable reviews from others, would not hesitatein buying one of their 1911's either.

It has nothing to do with quality it's just that I would rather purchase a gun of the same quality made in the U.S.
Many U.S 1911 manufacturers make much better guns than they do any ways

RRA is Rock River Arms and did make a 1911 platform styled pistol. RIA is Rock Island Armory that makes 1911 styled pistols in the Phillipines and is not associated with Rock Island Arsenal.
and you have personally compared the 1911's made in the USA against those made by RIA and MetroArms made in the Phillipines? just for others information, please explain the differences in quality? what observations and study on this have you made?
if you are going to make such statements, please report some facts or evidence to support your statements.
