NGIB, Your 2 cents is worth morin my $20 when it comes to these issues, but I kinda thought in a home defense situation a light might be a good idea. These old eyes need all the help they can get, but there there's got to be a lot in what you say, because there ain't a lot of them out there that even offer rails!?! But no matter, your info is greatly appreciated.

I have a couple of good bright (cheap) LED lights that I keep around the house. Gun in one hand, light in the other works just fine for me. BTW, my 55 year old eyes aren't any good either. The two problems with rails on a 1911 are that it really limits your holster selection and really throws off the great natural balance of the pistol if you hang something on it.

All this being said, I do have a Streamlight TLR-2 light/laser that I've mounted on one of my XDs before. It sits in a box now as I'm just more comfortable using a separate light...
