Default "My Delima"

Gentlemen & ladies,
Just joined the site and think it's great, informitive, enlightening, and in some cases humorus, For my first question, to all that care to join in, I'm new to the world of 1911's, but would like to purchase my first very soon. I have narrowed it down to the Kimber Tactical Entry(because of the stainless frame) or the Springfield TRP. All comments will be helpful.

Welcome to the forum, good to have you! You might want to hop over to the "Introductions" thread and tell us a little about yourself. There are many 1911 fans here who can help you a lot with your decision.

Can't help you much with your delima unless we know more about what you're looking for and need. Both of those you mentioned are really good "entry level" 1911s....actually, GREAT pistols beyond entry level! Are you looking for personal carry, home defense, target...you probably should qualify your needs a little and we can help you more.

What about a Kimber Stainless Target II?

It's ~$400 less and the slide is stainless too.

Stick around and someone will say "Colt" and have a couple of pictures.

Both choices are (IMO) good. But, you should handle them. Small differences can sway your choice.

It is 1:19 A.M. I thought for sure Cane would have said something by now.

The big difference between the 2 pistols you mention is the Kimber has a firing pin block and the Springer does not. Many folks prefer guns without the extra "hardware" that JMB did not include in his original design. Either will probably serve you well and it's all a matter of personal preference. Three of my four 1911s are Springers so I guess I'm a little biased in that direction...

I've been shooting Series 80s from the time they came out and other than a few more steps when stripping the gun it has NEVER given me a problem.

Oh yeah, get a Colt.

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!

Thanks for the welcome. I'm primarly interested in home defense and general target shootin. The thing about the Kimber Entry is I like the rail and the Springer is just sweet. A buddy of mine has a Colt and he's tryin to sway me in that direction, but at least for now I have these other two that really have my interest.

Just 2 cents but rails are just gimmicks. I do own some pistols with rails (XDs) but for a 1911 - it just ain't necessary. Lots of good 1911s available from many manufacturers - it's just a matter of finding the ones(s) that is/are right for you. At one time I had 9 of them but I've trimmed the herd to 4 that I really like. All of mine were bought used; however, be sure to know what you're looking at if you decide to go that route. No pistol platform has been butchered more by poor home gunsmithing than the 1911.

Also, most factory mags are junk so buying quality mags is critical. Wilson, Tripp, and Chip McCormick are the 3 brands I use...
