I bought this 1911 from an acquaintance for $700. He needed the money. I'd like to know what brand it is, or at least more about it. What it's actual value is is not that important because I would have given him almost anything he needed (No job and no medical ins. with med. bills).

Anyway desc. As follows:
- condition, 98%
- on frame: Caspian Arms Ltd., Wolcott , VT
- Ser. #501xx
- No other markings anywhere; slide, barrel, etc.
- fully adjustable rear sights (target?).
- rubberoid laminate on grip safety.
- action very smooth and moderately tight.
- bore is excellent.
- Series 70.
- solid trigger w/no overtravel adj. (needs it).
- moderately sized mag well.

I would guess that it is some kind of built up pistol, but I don't know. I have searched the Internet with no luck. Caspian Arms shows only aftermarket parts on their site.

Any ideas?

Caspian frames and slides are used often for builds. To really get an idea of value, you would need to know who the builder is.

I see a lot of them at Service pistol matches with similar sights to what you have. So someone probably built that one as a gun for matches.

It's not a true series 70 since it doesn't use the collet bushing, but it is a pre series 80 design.
