No, not in the same way I don't think. I haven't seen a 3" taken apart, so not 100% on that. It IS shorter. Whereas the 5" spring comes out the front with the bushing, the 4" has to use the take down tool to initially get it out. Then you work off the take down tool and remove the spring. I can get a pic or two of it if you'd like.

I only changed my 5" spring this week. I'll be changing the Pro this weekend, so I can get some pics in the process if you want.

I've been tempted to take my Compact's guide rod assembly apart a few times before, but never really saw the need to. I'm getting ready to put new springs into her though, so I was wondering if you had done it.

I've had bad luck in dealing with captive springs throughout my life.

I suspect if I'm not careful, I'll be launching the spring either at my head/face or into the ceiling when I do this. I think I'll wear some shielding.
