Virgil Tripp makes three different 1911 magazines for the 45 ACP. They are the 7r, 8r and the 10r.
The mag tubes are different for each capacity. Yes, the 8r mag sticks out of the bottom of the grip a tad more because of the design. With the bumper pad it looks like a pinkie extension.
Most 8r mags sold today use the same mag tube for their 7 and 8 round offerings. What you wind up with is the spring is forced into bind when you squeeze that extra round in and the reliability suffers as a result.
