Magazine recommendations for Springfield Loaded? for gift
I think my nephew has magazine capacity envy; he wants a mag that will hold more than the 7 round mag his Springfield Loaded came with.
I saw this 10 round model and wondered if it would be a good choice for his pistol, perhaps for a Christmas gift. http://www.springfield-armory.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=21_30&produ cts_id=191&zenid=7qvtu9mb30t5nral4smp5ruv33 Anybody got one of these? Anybody got a suggestion for a better mag for his pistol, preferably a 8 or 10 rounder? Thanks guys! |
I use Wilson Combat 47Ds (8 rounders) in my SA Trophy Match. They have been excellent. I've not tried any 10 rd mags, so I can't speak to them.

Rather than giving him a 10 rounder, teach him to reload. He will always have enough ammo. No malfunctions due to spring tension.

This is just personal preference. If I am going to buy an extended magazine I want to be able to get a grip extension too. The only exception is the 32 round magazines.
|
If it had Novak-style rear sight, i would've convinced him to trade me for my XD45 with a dozen or so 13 round mags. I think he needs a 10 round mag for it to learn that isn't really about capacity, but i want one that will run smoothly.

I would go with Tripp mags...
They are hands down the best magazines made. Here is the model number for the 10 rounder. They also make an 8 rounder. 10R-45-RG $36.95 Magazine 1911, .45 ACP caliber, ten round capacity, removable 1.587 polymer base pad, government grip length, hybrid follower, 17C .042 spring. |
Call Aaron @ Tripp (877.837.9445) and order one. (Tell him canebrake said hi.)
bart nailed it, 10R-45-RG http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/...pp/WCFR600.jpg That's one in my XSE with the optional alloy base. It runs great! |
I believe that the best magazine value is in the Chip McCormic line. Good magazines are critical to the function of pistols and they will make an appreciated gift. Other accessories might be a bit iffy, as everyone has their own preferences for that kind of stuff.

After reading reviews on here (mainly canebrake endorsements) about Tripp mags, I decided to give them a try and order a few several months ago. I've been extremely happy with them. They are definitely everything he says they are. They are high quality and do everything they're meant to do. From my personal experience with them, I would recommend them to anyone looking to make a high quality 1911 magazine purchase.

Thanks guys!
