Of my 22 IIRC, 1911's 4 are 9mm. I got them when the ammo crunch hit.

2 Colt government models MkIV series 70's from the early 70's.
1 Colt Combat Commander series 80.
1 Kimber Stainless Target, government sized.

I really do prefer the Colts. The Kimber is fine, but has that Swartz safety which I am not crazy about. Don't mind the series 80 firing pin safety at all. I have an additional couple of Colt government models that are series 80 too. (and a Custom Novak Colt 1991A1 series 80 too). All in 45acp of course.

Being the smug AH that I am, buy Colt, all the rest are just copies.

Good luck.

I would love to get an original, but I just don't have the money for it right now. What is it you don't like about the safety on the kimber? So far, it looks like kimber is the the only one with a CA approved model. The stainless target II is the one I have been looking at. It's just a little more thanks I can spend right now. Time for more saving.

I was all set to buy a new Norinco but walked out o the shop with a secondhand stainless Springfield for not much more....
Had no issues with it apart from its voracious appetite for my powder, primers and projectiles!
This thing is just too much fun to shoot....

I have the STI Spartan in .45 and love it. A week before I got mine, a guy at the range where I shoot got the Spartan in 9mm and sings it praises.

The Spartan MSRP is $705.93 and any LGS should get it to you for under the $700 mark.

so i am having trouble finding what i want. just to see what was available, i went to the brownell's website. i saw on there that they sell bare recievers. how hard is it to build a 1911? from what i saw, it looks like i could build what i want for about $6-700 and probably have a better gun than i could buy complete.

Brownells has a dedicated 1911 catalog that you can get in the mail. It has tons of stuff
