I was looking at one at the same time as I bought my Colt Commander, and went that way with my money due primarily to the Colt name and the desire for a shorter barrel, but the amount of goodies you get with the Taurus was very enticing. Having shot and sold numerous Taurus pistols when I worked at a gun shop, I liked most everything Taurus made but never shot their .45. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Josh

Damn good gun for the money. Hard to beat. Shoots great.

I filled out the recall form on Colts websit on July 3rd and I got my replacement recoil spring assemble on July 6th. I am very impressed with Colts quick responce.

Joshua,
In all honesty, I can't find anything wrong with it for a piece in that price range. Yes, certain parts have a "cheap feel" to them (thumb safeties most notably), but that is to be expected in a lower price range weapon. Overall, my Taurus shoots quite well, both in function and in accuracy. It is put together well, and mine is very tight. It definitely fills a place in line for those investigating a 1911, or those who don't feel like spending large $$$ on one right now.
For the price, I find it a nice weapon to own and shoot. I've had no problems with mine at all. I do wish I'd gotten the stainless version in hindsight though. Other than that, it's good to go in my book.
Good luck!
Sarge

Now that's funny! I guess that's what you guys are doing out there on your little boats while we're putting lead down range?

(For the record, this is just meant to be tongue in cheek inter-service badgering. I have great respect for all who serve our country. That respect pays no attention to uniform or service.)

Our down range sighting required an x, y and j axis. Oh yea, it is measured in mega-tons, not grains!

(Love that inter-service badgering!) Let's see some 1911's - 1911 Forum
