Always on the lookout for a good buy in a 1911 and I picked this one up on my way to the GCO convention in Atlanta. It's a basic milspec Norinco (chinese built) and I may turn this one into a project gun. They are known to be built from the best steel available and make a good build platform...

That is some strong steel that they use. It will eat up some basic milling equipment tooling. Great hand gun to have if you need to pistol whip someone.

What did you get it for, if you don't mind me asking? That's a great project gun you got right there...

What are you thinking? I am thinking a .460 Rowland would be a great addition - and you won't experience the problems Cane had with his Colt.

They use average firearm quality steel, but nothing Chinese is top quality steel. What they do do, though, is a lot of forging as it's cheaper than milling. You see the same thing in the Norinco M14s. Their receivers are prized because they can be had for much cheaper than other forged receivers.

I've got a tad over $400 in it. I'm thinking about building a long slide from this one. I'm going to run a box or two thru it tonight after work...
