What i was told, kimber makes there 1911 so tight that they need to be lube and thats only when it gets dirty. Kimber guns needs to be own by shooters that clean n lube there gun. Thats all you have to do. All I know is when i hold and shoot a kimber, its like it was made for me. I know what you are saying, Paying $1200.00 for a gun, you should never have ANY trouble. People ask me why i buy Van Staal reels [$875]to fish. I dont want any problems when i get the big fish. I think all you have to do is maintance. If kimber guns sold for $700 i bet all would be good. Lets see what happen with the $700 Ruger 1911. There are kimbers for $700 but guys add crimson laser-that $339.00 or just have the money and want a custom gun. I let you know when i get my crimson custom carry.[on order for 2 months] I will do what the book says. If I have problems, it will be all over the 1911 fourms. If you look back at 2008 -in this fourm, i bought a new 357 mag taurus 7 shot rev. First day with that gun it blew up in my hand, 3 shells when off and split the chamber. To me thats a crap gun and why dont you here about that ? Because the gun is only $550.
I'm not sure what sour milk has to do with Kimber shining people on who have problems before they have fired the magic 500 rds.
I don't know what a Van Staal reel is, but is there a 500 cast break-in period on them?

Do you have a kimber ? I dont -not yet. We can only hear whats going on. With so many sold --3x more that any high end gun. Your going to hear more.
When i get my Kimber, I will keep it clean n lubed the first 500 rounds. Some guys dont clean there kimber because they think paying $1200.00 for a gun, it will still work well. Did you ever shoot a kimber ? If not -try it.
Yes -- Van Staal has a cast break -in-period. They are made so tight that you must reel n reel then they feel great.

So your getting defensive about a brand of pistol you don't own? FWIW, No, I don't own one. I also don't necessarily believe them top be any more "High End" than Springfield Armory. They simply have more glossy ads in magazines.

Clean & Lubed, great. Some Guys think you never need to clean anything more than once every year, to each their own.
The primary difference here is that you see Kimber as the Be-all, end-all of 1911. I see them as simply another brand of 1911s. It all comes down to opinion, you have yours and I have mine. I'm sorry, but I don't think of Kimber as anything special. For similar money I think there are better choices. FWIW, I feel that Dan Wesson builds a much better "off the rack" 1911s than Kimber. YMMV.

I went to my gun store today and they had the Springfield Armory Trophy Match 1911-A1 .45ACP. $1100 -[sale price $750]--I like it. Felt real good in my hand. Even tho i still have my kimber on order, i put a deposit on it. Hope i did the right thing.

Man, a lot of these guys don't like Kimber. A lot do, however. Read the whole thread. I have two, and they'll stay with me as long as I can still shoot them. Beautiful pistols, accurate, and well made.

I don't begrudge anyone their opinion...I, along with many others just don't share the same one.

If I understand you correctly, you can get a Trophy Match for $750 on sale. Even $1100 is a pretty good price. $750 is a screaming bargain. I own one and it's been outstanding. You will not be sorry.

Just goes to show you the power of advertising in every gun rag and gun TV show known to man. People get the impression from said advertising that a Kimber is a semi-custom 1911, when in fact it is just a dolled up, low end production gun that is filled with MIM parts and has a dubious track record, at best, for reliability.

A dolled up, low end gun? Really?

Which one(s) have you owned?
