why modify it? what is the purpose or gain? IMO, buy a pistol without it in the first place as there are many out there without it. if it's strictly a range gun or target pistol, then go for it. if it's a carry pistol either leave it alone, or buy a pistol without the safety. any mods you do to a pistol, could be used by a lawyer to show that you are negligiable and unsafe if something were to happen.

It is pretty much a range pistol (all my 1911's) I don't know where you live but round here series 70's are hard to find, the one I do have was custom built out of all the models available on the Colt website they only offer 2 Series 70 and none in the Commander model so I'm building another here in a month or two. Makes it a whole lot easier to break down well really easier to re assemble.

I have one handgun with the serie 80 setup and do not plan to change it.

I don't know where you have searched for the serie 70 Colt, but I come across them all the time on the used market.

That may be the way to go if you really want to get away from the serie 80.
And it sounds like you want to modify anyway, so why buy new and possibly ruin a good working gun?

(Have you ever seen a slide that was a series 80 changed to series 70? The earlier Delta Elites had some problems with the hammer bouncing and peening the area where the firing pin plunger was at. With that being near the cut out for the disconnector, some gave thier owners a little surprise after a while. That did happen to me and that is why I do not have the DE any more.)
