Default Which JHP for 1911 carry?

I'd just like to get some numbers on which JHP people have used for carry in their 1911..

Obviously, each 1911 May handle ammo differently, but I'd like to hear what you actually have tested and found to be reliable enough to carry with..

I figured I could spend hundreds of dollars and try it for myself or just ask y'all...of course I'll still practice and test out whichever JHP I decide to carry, but maybe y'all can help me narrow it down

I've seen that JHP ammo made specifically for the 1911, but idk if that's something I'd actually carry...

I've really only tested thoroughly the Winchester PDX1 stuff

Thanks

I've used Speer Gold Dot, Federal HST, and Winchester Ranger. Prior to these I had tried Federal Hydrashok.

For .45 I have Remington Golden Saber. For .38 Super Underwood makes a JHP that functions well in my gun.

my personal method is I run about 250-300 rounds, (at least) of 230 gr. "Hardball" FMJ ammo before I run anything else. reasons. one, it allows me to check the function and make sure it's operating as it should be. two, it allows the mating surfaces to wear in and makes the gun's wear surfaces to mate to one another. three, it allows me to learn how accurate and where it's POI is on the target.

and just as you said yourself, every 1911 is different. chambers can be tighter or looser than others. feed ramps can be different. magazines can play a huge role in how the pistol functions with JHP ammo. I have had 1911's that wouldn't feed anything but "Hardball" military type loads. I have had magazines that would work with JHP ammo, but would with "Hardball" ammo.

those I have owned in the past that wouldn't feed JHP ammo, either were used strictly with "Hardball" ammo or got traded or sold off. I have hears some people say to polish or Dremel the feed ramp to make them feed JHP ammo, but I have seen more pistols, 1911's specifically over the years ruined because someone didn't know what they were doing. in my experience and observations over the years, unless a person is highly skilled in gunsmithing 1911's, they need to leave the Dremel tools alone.

all of my current 1911's will run just about any type of ammo i might ever want or need to run through them. i run lots of reloads with Hornady JHP bullets and lots of cheaper surplus military ammo. i run anywhere from 185 gr. bullets to 230 gr. bullets in them.

there is no substitute for shooting your own pistol and finding what it likes.

I've been using Speer Gold Dot, but local gun store is out of stock. So I used Hornady Critical Duty. Both run fine in my SA Range Officer Compact 45 and my SIG P938. Neither have shot anything except paper and varmints, but they work.
