Default Iver Johnson 1911s

yesterday at the gunshop i saw a Iver Johnson 1911 for $479.95 and thought it was a pretty nice looking gun and looked pretty close to what the military 1911s used to look like. i'm thinking seriously about buying it. Are the Iver Johnson 1911s a good quality handgun?

If I were looking for a quality firearm, I would not be looking at the bottom of the price barrel.

That said, most of these firearms in that price range come from a couple of sources (normally overseas) that allows someone's name to be stamped on it and sold as theirs.

I've seen the advertisements for them.
I don't remember who is making them.

Like many entry level 1911s the IJ is made in the Philippines (and built by SAM).
