No argument intended. As with any rule, there are exceptions. And yes, the 9mm can be problematic in the 1911 platform.

My experience has been that the cheaper I've tried to go, the more expensive it got. It is better to go with the the best quality one can afford.

Days of old, it was not uncommon to spend one month's worth of pay on one's firearm. Today, our priorities are on other things while our self protection is of second nature and we want to scrimp on the money to protect ourselves.

Wait-wait wait! Correct me if I'm wrong here... Didn't John Moses Browning
originally design the 1911 in 9mm, then the military to him they wanted it in
a heavier caliber with more 'stopping power'

I believe (and I could be wrong) that the 1905 was originally in the "new" .45 caliber. They were disappointed in the .38 and wanted a semi-auto a larger caliber.

Yikes -- I'm a bit overwhelmed! Once again, thanks for all the replies. I do like the idea of handling and shooting the gun first, since many of the guns that i have shot weren't necessarily what I was expecting -- with the exception of the 1911 however, most of the guns discussed in this thread can't be found at the local gun store. I'm liking what I see for the SA 9mm loaded. Perhaps the best idea for me is to rent all variations of SA 1911s that are available at my LGS? Would love to shoot a P35, but don't know if I can locate one.

LOL I know. I had actually forgotten about the BHP until this thread. Really makes me wish I knew someone with a massive gun collection. Might have to make some calls to a few not-so-local gun stores to see if I can find one.

Crit... Just get it in 9mm and tell those .45ers they are they aren't using the intended cal. You'll love shooting twice as much or only paying 1/2 the other guys.

Anyone know if he can put a different slide utop his naughty-9 and go full .451 when some coin comes his way?

Ejector, slide stop, and magazines are different. Slide stop easy to swap, ejector is not.
